Self-defense for the LGBTQ Community

December 16, 2018 @ 12:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Register Today

This three hour workshop focuses on the personal safety needs of youth and adults in the LGBTQ community. We begin each work shop with a listening session that prioritizes  the safety concerns  of the participants and guides the topics to be covered during the workshop.  We understand that the topic of self-defense can be triggering for anyone who has experienced trauma from  bullying, harassment, or assault and that the rates of violence are higher for people who identify as a sexual or gender minority.; therefore, we prioritize self-care and creating a space that is safe and inclusive to learning. We offer a range of topics such as self-care, deescalation; strategies to stop and interrupt  harassment and bullying; assertive communication, identifying healthy and unhealthy behaviors; street smarts; and physical  self-defense skills.  Sessions are led by facilitators who have  years of experience teaching self-defense skills to people of all backgrounds, genders  and ages. Workshops incorporate best practices in teaching and facilitation and include role plays and scenarios. Recommended for adults and youth 14 years and above.  Register Now
